i’m going to start off with food this week because i had such a great week in the kitchen even though i have been a little preoccupied (get to that in a minute). the farmers market the past few weeks has been very good to me. being a garlic lover it was pure bliss. everywhere i looked were scapes and better yet, raw garlic. heaven. if you have ever had either you get it. i did a lot of research on scapes, and was lucky enough to come up with a couple great recipes. soup and souffle this week, and the scape dip last. we were in garlic heaven. we ended the week with a great dressing as well as a simple and easy tilapia dish made with a lot of butter (yum).

as well as ignoring my kitchen and blog, i also ignored my garden. i watered it, but i barely went in this week. i have a routine when the kids go to bed, i go outside, clean up bikes and balls, water the herbs and then walk over to the raised beds and see how everything is going. this past week, i barely walked in. this morning p and i went on a garden adventure. i am kind of sad i missed all that was happening. not only are the zucchini taking off but we finally have tomatoes and cucumbers!

see that, that’s what i have been so busy with. if any of you are new homeowners you get this. it’s been 2 years since we moved in. i am still unpacking boxes and trying to figure out what goes where, i haven’t hung pictures and i still can’t decide on paint colors (the only thing i have accomplished is the kitchen, one day i will post pictures). when we moved into a house we had an old desk that was falling apart. the drawers wouldn’t open and it looked like it was ready to collapse. so when we got a new kitchen table we used our old one as a desk until we could decide what to do.

months ago i found this really great blog, diy by design. every so often i stroll by to see what’s going on and then i saw this. i knew i had to start building my desk. i had these old bookcases that i was dying to paint and because my first floor is one big room i wanted to keep everything light and airy. i matched up the paint to my table and this week i started painting. i went out and found a slab of wood, stained it and nailed it down to the bookcases. the only thing i need now, higher chairs :-)

so now i can sit comfortably at a desk and my kids have room to sit with me and do their thing as well (plus, now i have a place for all my cooking magazines, that’s only half of them:-).

happy 4th everyone! enjoy your holiday!
