happy 4th everyone! have any great plans? bbq maybe?

we love a good bbq here. a great burger, ribs, chicken, you name it. we love it. and we love prepping for one. e and i have so much fun coming up with menus (his of course revolves mostly around the drink part) but together we always seem to come up with some good stuff.

for our bbqs this weekend we went back to some oldies but goodies we couldn’t stop ourselves from making, here are a few great quick ideas if you’re looking for something to bring with you or something to make for your own bbq.

slaw: everyone brings coleslaw, but how about a no-mayo slaw? we made this today but instead of using red cabbage and all that good stuff, we used a prepared bag of broccoli slaw we bought earlier in the week. it was quick, easy, and it went over great.

dip: have extra scapes lying around? this is a great quick dip to make that will really impress.

steak: planning on grilling steak? wait, even shrimp can use this marinade. it’s awesome and you and your guest will love it. it has a mexican flair and would be great served with some corn salsa and some tortillas or really just plain.

sides: what about cucumber salad? it’s refreshing and light. just what you need to accompany burgers or hot dogs.

ribs: so you’re going to the beach? drop these in your crock pot in the morning and by the time you get home and ready to start dinner, you’re almost there. just throw them on the grill for a couple minutes to finish off.

there is more than just ribs, steak, and hot dogs though, what about hamburgers?

days ago i was flipping through channels when i came upon diners, drive-ins, and dives. you know that guy fieri show where he travels looking for great food. i always stop to watch it to see what people are creating. one episode, i can’t seem to find it, he was raving about this portabella hamburger. not just portabella on the grill stuck on a bun, i am talking chop meat with chopped portabella. i had to make it. how hard could it be? not. here’s a quick burger recipe, i promise it will make you happy and add some spunk to a already great original dish, the hamburger.

hamburger with chopped portabella and beef

  1. take all of your ingredients and mix together (with your hands). form into patties and bbq.

we serve burgers here with all sorts of condiments: ketchup, mayo, mustard, relish, lettuce, and tomatoes, be creative and have fun.

have a great 4th, be safe and eat a lot!
