the great thing about my kids, they love food as much as i. they actually ask me to go on foodie adventures (love them!). they are the kind of kids who get way to excited in food stores. they run around and grab anything that looks interesting. this i bet pisses a lot of people off and you are sure to hear me screaming “get back here” or “please, i know you like that, but it’s glass”. the easiest place to take them is open markets where they can sample and run with out knocking aisles of food down or knocking over every older person who gets in their way.

this week my friend bought us to an asian market. i haven’t been to one since i worked in midtown. i didn’t even know one existed here. it had every spice, drink, dessert and every noodle you could possibly need. the best part, the fruit. see that up there, those are lychee’s. they are the most glorious little pieces of fruit i have ever eaten. they are refreshing and sweet, but not to sweet. you peel back the skin and pop them in your mouth (there is a nut in side, don’t eat that). if you ever see them, grab them. see that down there? that is dragon fruit. i have never eaten one and was a little afraid of it actually. i saw one split in half and it looked pretty cool. it was white with little black specs inside. from what i have read up on it, it’s kind of tasteless. a bland mix somewhere between a kiwi and a banana, i could be wrong, but according to the internets, that is what they say. next time i head over there i will be sure to pick one up and let you know what it actually tastes like, you know, according to me.

as well as our bounty of fruit, desserts and noodles, we also scored big time at the farmers market this week as well as from our own garden. my tomatoes are finally turning different shades of red, yellow and orange. it’s pretty exciting. our cucumbers of course are out of control and our melons are ripening before we can even get to them.

i picked up some more sausage this week from gaia’s breath farm as well as some great herbed goat cheese that we have been stuffing in baby bello’s for snacks (yum, i highly recommend trying this). all you need is the following:

  • baby bello’s
  • goat cheese
  • olive oil
coat a oven proof baking dish with a little olive oil and bake for 15 minutes. that’s it, a delish snack that’s healthy and very filling. just talking about it makes me want to pop some in the oven.
on a completely different note, look at that! i was chosen by bloggers.com, editor’s pick of the day! thank you bloggers.com!!

happy weekend everyone and happy eating!
