this is the first thing you see when you walk into red barn bakery (see up there). not only does that excite me (i practically jumped up and down) — i was hungry .

through the grapevine i have heard a lot about red barn bakery, i was personnally familiar because i was introduced to them a while back at a local farm. you know how anything local, organic, and well, with coffee involved, gets me excited. the food not only got me excited, her story did too.

randell and i talked for a while. not only about our love of organic and local produce but how she always loved food. much like me, randell is a fellow artist. she studied painting, and in her past life (before red barn bakery) designed her own handbag line. she always had a secret obsession with baking, though, and it shows in her food.

red barn bakery started literally in her little red barn. after starting her baking business randell was running out of room in her little kitchen, so decided it was time to invest in an industrial oven, the only problem… room! so in her little red barn, randell installed an industrial oven. during the winter months she would dig a path from her kitchen to the barn just to get her baking done. soon enough she found a little spot in our town that would fit her business perfectly, plus, you know, make us little bites of heaven to take home or eat in the bakery.

macarons (upper left), personal apple pies (upper right), pound cake muffins (lower left) and finally the yummy chocolate scone

not only is everything fabulous to look at, everything tastes amazing. every cookie or muffin is baked there, every ingredient is local, every bite you take of a scone, to die for. big chocolate chunks, light pound cakes, apple pies you need to serve at your thanksgiving table, you can not go wrong with any selection (my kids’ favorites are the maple frosted cookies).

not only is the food good to look at but the atmosphere is amazing. everything plays off each other and the natural light, it makes eating there comforting, like eating in your kitchen with friends. not many people know, but there is tons of seating on the side as well at some benches in front. it makes for a nice meeting place or even a date for all you single locals out there (or even you married ones who need a quiet spot to connect). quiet, serene, beautiful and the food, awesome.

i’m in love with red barn bakery. it’s always been a great spot to head to with the kids, but now that i got to know more about how it all started, randell’s love of organic and local foods, i just can’t get enough. so if you’re local, and you are heading down to the train or just looking for a spot to go read your library books, this is the place to be. go visit randell and tell her i said hello!
