• 5 cups of water
  • 2/3 cup of coffee
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 4 cardamom seeds smashed

happy monday…for many of you that means your kids are in camp, for me…it means i have one week left till it starts. one week.

one more week till camp starts means i am going to have some company this week at work. i’m going to be making multiple trips to the pool, and i am going to be depending on my iced coffee.

last year my good friend and blogger posted this…iced coffee. she apparently gets to read the times (insert my huge nasty sarcastic winky smile here, am i the only one whose kids don’t let them read??) iced coffee using no hot water…iced coffee using tap water and coffee grinds. could it be? yes…it be.

i’ve used this recipe a lot (it comes in handy when you have no power). i used it last week when my ac went out…i use it for company when i know i have a lot of ice coffee drinkers, but most of all, i use it for myself because there is nothing i love more then a cup of good iced coffee.

during the months i have been making it i have tried a couple of things…i add sugar (because i like sugar in my coffee), i have added cinnamon sticks because sometimes it’s nice to have some flavored coffee (vanilla works really well too) but my favorite to date…cardamom.

there is something about cardamom. i have mixed emotions. i love the taste. i love the smell. what i don’t like, biting into it. eh. but cardamom in my coffee, i’m drooling just thinking about it. it’s like chai on crack i really dig it.

it’s my summer go to drink…it’s what you’ll find in my fridge during the summer, and if you are a coffee drinker and you’re over, i will most likely be offering you a cup (if there is any left).

go make some, and if your kids are in camp, enjoy the peace and quiet, i’ll be at the pool (after work).

cardamom iced coffee

i use a french press. it makes getting rid of the coffee grinds really easy.

  1. to a french press add 5 cups of water.
  2. add 2/3 cup coffee grounds (i use grounds for an electric drip).
  3. add sugar, add cardamom, mix and set aside over night.
  4. in the morning press down the strainer on the french press and enjoy.

sometimes, depending on the coffee i use, i have to strain the coffee twice. if you have a big measuring cup you can pour it into that after the first strain and then empty and quickly rinse out the press and repeat.

if you don’t have a french press…still easy to make. throw all the makings in a jar, shake, let sit and in the morning strain with a filter over a cup or another jar or pitcher.

add some milk or cream, ice cubes and enjoy.
