so what do you serve with your latkes on thanksgiving…

cran-apple sauce of course!

what would latkes be with out apple sauce? and what would thanksgiving be with out cranberries?

minutes to throw together, 45 minutes to cook…and then you get to lick the bowl. i mean, what can be better then that, especially if your little rug rats are pulling at your shirt begging for a taste.

can be made ahead, and honestly, anything you can make ahead works. especially if you have 15 people coming to your house, playdates, doctors appointments and  2 children running circles around you while you are trying to prepare.

the perfect mix of hanukkah and thanksgiving. the perfect way to bring both holidays together…and if you have 10 apples sitting on your counter and an extra bag of cranberries…well, this is the perfect recipe to use them in.

cran-apple sauce

  • about 8-10 large apples
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 cup dark sugar
  •  1 1/2 cup cranberries
  • 2 cups water

what you will need to make this…a large dutch oven and a food mill.

  1. cut and dice your apples (skin and all) into a pot with the rest of the ingredients. bring to a boil and then simmer almost covered for about 45 minutes or until everything has softened and can easily be mushed with the back of a spoon.
  2. ladle mixture into a a food mill and get cranking.
  3. store sauce in a jar for up to a week.
