oh gosh…i have been everywhere but here.


it’s just been chaos.

the last time i wrote my puppy was calmly resting…today he’s recovering from surgery.

he’s got a cone. i have bruises.

he likes to slam into my legs as soon as i walk in the kitchen. he really likes when i cook. he usually lays somewhere in the middle of my sink and oven…ready to pounce, eat anything i drop on the floor. except carrots…and onions. he doesn’t like onions…

i haven’t been cooking. between back and forth trips to the vet and end of school activities i have hardly been home. friends have moved, there are parties and it’s wedding season at work. it means when i finally get a chance to sit down salad is all i really want to make. it’s all i really have time for.

simple. accompanied by some left over steak my darling husband cooked up for me it’s really all i have been eating.


look how simple this is. perfect for a bbq, perfect with steak or chicken for a quick dinner. perfect to bring to someone’s house for a side.

cross your fingers. 8 more days of school. 3 more days of the cone. then finally, yes finally, the calmness will take over. i will once again have that calm life we have all been yearning for.

fennel & cilantro salad

  • 1 bulb of fennel sliced
  • 1 sliced red onion
  • handful of chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 3 tbl cider vinegar
  • 1 tbl honey
  • a pinch of salt and pepper
  1. toss fennel, onion and cilantro in a bowl.
  2. in a jar, measure the honey, oil and vinegar with a pinch of salt and pepper, cover and shake.
  3. pour dressing in the bowl and toss everything together.
